Yes the same as the wine lodge ...Yatt-ez. Dare I ask what veleros means?

Oh I forgot, my son's name is Ben, just Ben, not Benjamin or Benedict, and I have explained that to the villaggers...they still refer to him as Ben-yameen (although some people in the UK call him Benjamin as well)..

That's odd, most folk get their names shortened.

My parents said they named me so my name couldn't be shortened, here they just change it.

When you said the name meant yachts in Spanish, it could have been a few words, velero and YATES among them.

I guessed that the name must be YATES as in wine lodge and not the velero word.

A yate in Spanish does not have to be a sailboat, it is used for a luxury vessel, like the Royal Yacht Brittania (same as English), verlero does mean a sailboat.

Myself and my bro' and sis were given names that couldn't be shortened...so they thought. We have 2 surnames so at school they took the 3 letters

that reminds me of when my eldest was at pre-school & one of her friends was a little boy whose mum always called him Jamie - he was generally a happy kid but he was always in tears at pre-school & absolutely hated it

in those days (pre-CRB check days) all the mums would be a 'volunteer' on a rota basis to keep the adult/child ratio right

one day when it was my turn to volunteer I noticed that the staff called him James all the time............his mum only ever called him James when he was naughty so he thought he was a very naughty boy indeed

sadly, his mum had neglected to inform the staff that he was known as Jamie at home..........even more sadly, when I mentioned this to the staff & the asked her about it she insisted that they continue to call him James - after all he was a big boy now

he was 3........................

Doesn't the name Benjamin have an Arabic root? Bin Jamin I think means 'Son of Jamin'
