Which country is Chiclana De La Luz in? We can move your thread to the appropriate country forum if you let us know whereabouts in the world it is. Good luck with your move. |

Re: Chiclana
Hi Dave,
thanks for the reply. The considerations are 1.Looking for more authentic Spain as opposed to Little Britain in the Sun 2.Love History and the likes of Cadiz/Seville appeal. 3.Convienient to visit Portugal and Morroco etc. 4.Not overly crowded 5.Expansive beaches 6.Appears well served by airports. 7.Appears relatively uncommercialised 8.We are sporty and enjoy bikes/water sports, swimming, walking dog etc . 9.Ideally looking for a Finca type set up not far from town/beaches. 10.Chiclana appears large enough/not too large for day to day stuff, whilst retaining its Spanish culture. 11.Learning Spanish prior to the move 12.Initial plan is the 183day rule staggered then eventual citizenship dep on Brexit bits n Bobs 13.Like to socialise over a beer/food 14.Budget max 175k incl fees etc 15.We are going to learn golf when we have time. 16 We are in our 50s and enjoy good health. thanks for your help Derek & Jane |
Re: Chiclana
Welcome to the Spain forum.
The big thing that seems to be missing is ,How do you intend to support yourself and your dependants until you reach retirement age? ( income, and health insurance spring immediately to mind) as you will have to demonstrate this at your residency application. As I am sure others will tell you, It would be best if you could get your residency sorted before the end of this year. Pete |

183 days relates to tax residency. Your biggest problem will be getting the right to stay for more than 90 days in any 6 month period. To do that you would need to apply for residency and that will get more difficult after December 31st. Citizenship is out of the question untill you have spent 10 years resident in Spain. |
Re: Chiclana
Thanks Chaps,
Good points made.Income wise, we will be retired on Private UK pension and private PMI .Apols confused citizenship & residency . Probably too early to apply for research residency as can’t buy for 21 months. |
Re: Chiclana
Hola
If you can't buy for 21 months then you have the timing right in that you should rent first to ensure you like Chiclana. Chiclana is a holiday town and renting in June, July and August is very expensive - less than half the price for the other nine months. When do you intend to start coming to Chiclana? There are "Brexit problems" one of which may be driving licences as they will not be exchangeable after the transition period and you will have to take a Spanish driving test as we understand it currently (but things may change). Re: Chiclana
Thanks Dave,
Appreciate the reply. As soon as we are able to fly. Plan to come and have a look between Cadiz down to Barbate , basing ourselves in Chiclana . Other area is Ayamonte/huevla,but think Chiclana appears to be more central. Do you get a lot of wind on the beaches , I think it’s called Levante. A little nearer the time, appreciate any guidance on suitable rentals or rental agencies presume flights to Jerez . hope you are well . many thanks Derek & Jane |
Re: Chiclana
Hola,
jerez is 30 mins, Gibraltar 75 mins, Seville 100mins Malaga two and half hours Faro three an half Huelva is a large town but Ayamonte is lovely and has the advantage of being on the border so popping across to Portugal becomes the norm. <snip> Davexf |
Re: Chiclana
Hello Dave,
Many thanks for the info . Will give you a shout ,when we can pop over. Do you know of any good websites to get a virtual look at the area, as U Tube is not very good. is it windy in the area, with clear sea water as received conflicting views thanks Derek & Jane |
