Looks like the French are bring the 'Ryanair' of the train world to Spain - meanwhile the low-cost AVE service is on hold!

Does anyone know how you get the over sixty rail and tram discount travel card. we tried once in valencia but just got strange looks and the runaround.thanks

Renfre do a Tarjeta Dorado which was 6 euros but this might have gone up. All you have to do is take your passport and residency card or paper and a passport sized photo to your local station. A form is completed, they send the paperwork and photo to their main office who will produce a plastic card for you to gain your discount. I have not used the tram so not sure whether this card works for that. The discount is very generous.

I found it a waste of time as most fares are available with a discount but you cannot use the card with these fares. The best discounts are obtained by timing your purchase the same as the cheap airlines.
