Cheap 'card' phone

Looking for a cheap cell phone - pay as you go type when we are in Spain next month. Something cheap enough to throw/give away when Mrs IP returns to the States, or save for our/her next trip over.

Seen any specials lately?

The last phone we had we bought at Corte Ingles for 50 euros or something 5 years ago, but it got destroyed by a water baloon last year when Mrs IP was home.

You can get a Vodaphone pack, phone, sim and some credit in most phone shops for about 50 €`s
Excellent service here, but not sure about the area you are going.

I agree with you Jdr, and you get around 24 euros credit on it too!

Pay as you go mobile.

Exactly- something with no strings attached, no 'plan'. Just something we can make the occasional call on, receive calls on, and I can call Mrs IP on after I leave. Our last one could run out of time/minutes and still receive calls for 6 months or a year(?) as I recall.

Given that you vacation plans include visiting some areas that are remote then we would suggest you purchase a telefonica SIM for the best coverage. This is going on from an unscientific survey of our guests. It seems that telefonica whilst not the cheapest they have the best coverage. But even they have holes in the coverage areas.

I have the "Phone House" catalogue in front of me (read Carphone Warehouse), They are showing packs from €25 with Vodafone, Yoigo and Orange, but they don't sell Movistar/Telefonica. Might be worth a look on line at http://www.phonehouse.es

I had Movistar (telefonica) and it went down quite a few times, since changing to Vodafone it`s been much better and no problems at all, except in parts of GIB.

I think that they all have problems at one time or another. I run both a Movistar and an Orange, both can be patchy at times for coverage, even in the same room!

That can be the age of the phone or sim, three of us were on Moviestar and put the phones next to each other and received different signals.
