Re: Changes to pets passport.
You should get the passport free - it's issued by the regional government.
If you don't register the chip on the Spanish database it is next to useless. |
Re: Changes to pets passport.
This is true what Fred James has said , i dont know if it is the same for whole of spain but once my dog was chipped and the code was then entered into her passport , i went to our town hall in Ibiza and was given a disc to go on her collar with information of the chip.

Re: Changes to pets passport.
Having a passport for you pet allows you to keep track of all their jabs but by registering the micro chip with central government to me is more peace of mind, if my animal disappears at least if they do turn up at a centre or are found somewhere I would hope that I can get them back as they have my details.
When we came over they charged us for the pet passport and registration of their British chip, the same amount as it would have cost us to have them chipped in the first place here, but can you put a price on peace of mind. The only thing is that many people do forget to do is change the details if they move or change the phone number etc, I changed my mobile number when I lived in the UK, visited a friend down south and my dog wandered off, someone 200yrds up the road got hold of him, called the dog warden and while I was out looking for him they had him in the house. I got back and called the council dog wardens just in case he turned up, the warden was not their so left a message and description of the dog, they picked up the dog, scanned him and tried to call me but of course number was not known. It took her getting back to the office, getting a message regarding a lost dog and putting 2 & 2 together, I had left a contact number so only then could I be traced. He was gone 4 hrs longer than needed all because I forgot to change my phone number with the database. I am now very particular as to contact details updated when needed. |
Re: Changes to pets passport.
Now new rules for tapeworm treatment before entering the UK, 1 - 5 days. :)

Re: Changes to pets passport.
My Hungarian Vet told me there are still some countries worse than the UK when it comes to pet restrictions, difficult to believe when you consider most borders in Europe now are unmanned and overgrown with weeds. I have travelled by car with 3 pets, through 5 countries this year alone and think I saw only one manned border, but wasn't stopped.
It seems only the UK needs to check everyone and everything. Why is the UK different when it comes to border crossing? I do often wonder. |

It's a very big step forward for the UK who have at last realised that rabies has now gone the way of smallpox - at least in the EU. all pets in the EU should have a record of vaccinations, if that is what you refer to as being mandatory in Spain, it is in Germany |

Do you think so, not in Germany, there are still fairly large outbreaks of rabies
According to the World Health Organisation there have been 2 cases in domestic animals in Germany in the last 4 years - hardly a large outbreak! The most significant change to the rules from Jan 2012 is that it is no longer necessary to wait 6 months after the first rabies jab before travelling. |

Really? Where do you get that idea?

I am not referring to domestic animals, but the animals that live in the forest, the places domestic animals go and in some cases, wild have bitten or come into contact with domestic, hence why in most German forst areas it warns about the dangers of rabies, so, it isn't as rare as smallpox in the EU, which was my point |
Re: Changes to pets passport.
Further to my previous post, from the WHO data there have been no cases of rabies in wildlife in Germany during that period. The only cases at all are in bats.
According to the WHO Germany has been rabies free since 2008. Also the government site confirms this http://www.bmelv.de/SharedDocs/Stand...utschland.html |

It seems only the UK needs to check everyone and everything. Why is the UK different when it comes to border crossing? I do often wonder. It has therefore always tried to use this advantage to best effect. Border checks within mainland Europe would have little effect in stopping the spread of infections and diseases as wild animals roam freely and cross borders as they please together with any infections they may carry. That new five day ruling is great news for planning return journeys. |
