Changes to car importation laws from 01/01/08
Therre have been a few changes to the laws affecting importation and reregistration of cars from the UK.
1. Importation taxes are no longer applied, BUT there is a tax based on the emissions of the vehicle.
2. Re-registration, you now have 60 days from registring on the padron to get your car replated, not the 30 days it was.
Reported in one of the local english language newspapers. Coast Rider I believe, you can find full details by searching their web site

Re: Changes to car importation laws from 01/01/08
It was never 30 days. That only applies if you wish to avoid paying the matriculation tax.
Under EU law you have 6 months after becoming resident.
This never was an "import" tax - you just have to pay exactly the same matriculation tax on a car that you reregister as you would have to on a new car bought in Spain. Every car on Spanish plates has paid that tax. They have changed the way they calculate that tax and it is now based on emissions rather than engine size.
