Hi everyone, apologies if this has been answered before and thanks for replying!

I have NIE, am a non resident, own property (escritura etc), bank account in Spain but don't get over there very often.

Can I obtain digital certificate
- online - unclear from websites how to do this - which site? This? - by visiting Spanish Embassy in London. If so what documents do I need to provide and their auto email reply doesn't explain very well how to make an appointment?

I would suggest when you are over in Spain at your property go to your ayuntamiento as they often are able to do this for you, certainly our village does. I got mine initially by making an appointment at the ayuntamiento for the Guadalinfo office, I attended with my laptop the man there put the electronic certificate on my computer sent me an email which he said don't delete with the certificate on so that you can add the certificate to other devices and also put the certificate onto a USB stick I took with me for same purpose. Mine ran out a while back they send a message telling you how to renew online but to be honest I got lost with it and made another appointment at the Guadalinfo office where he re did it for me. That would be my advice for next time you are over.

If you live in the Alicante region, you can get along to any Suma office (you might need to book an appointment first)
Or if you are lucky and live near Benidorm there is an office not far from the Tram Station that will set it up for you.
They did ours a few years ago.

Thanks everyone, I can't get to Spain at the moment.
Has anyone done this totally online or at an embassy?

If you're registering with a NIE on white A4 paper + passport, I imagine the embassy will be more familiar with this than a town hall.

That's if the town hall do it, it depends on the autonomous community. In Catalonia they will only do idCATs for you.

I think you just start by sending the embassy an email saying you want a certificado digital and what dates are convenient and they will find something.

The alternative, which achieves the same as the certificate in many cases, is a Cl@ve PIN. This can be applied for online without you having to validate personally. It’s better than nothing.
