I have just received 137 pounds for one call to Barclays having paid off my mortgage before moving to Spain unknown to me I was over charged a mortgage exit fee it appears a change in the law means these extra charges must be repayed to the debtor plus interest in some cases. A list of the various mortgage companies is hereon some like Barclays/Woolwich have a dedicated line that deals just with such refunds. They will not chase you to give you the cash you have to make a little effort with a call or letter to you mortgage provider. Have your name,roll number/account number and property address handy when calling. You can go back quiet a number of years so if you paid your mortgage before you came to spain or in the UK...claim or at least make enqs .... please update hereon if you are successful....every little helps Even if you don’t have a clue about what you were charged, reclaiming should be pretty easy. Just call your old lender and say “I’d like to reclaim my old mortgage exit fee please”. When it asked for details say you don’t have them, and ask it to let you know what you were charged and what your contract says. Most will do this without a problem. If it asks you why you want to reclaim, just say “because the regulator, the FSA says I was overcharged”.

Yes you are right Lionda re the thread above, Lots of other tips as well as a good read. as for limit on making a claim I do not think there is one as long as you can provide the roll/account number. I note that Northern Rock as troubled as it is, Has put aside 15 million pounds for such claims so it make sense to at least make a call to your provider if you have paid up your mortgage in say the last 10 years. I will not be adding anymore to this thread the money is there for you if you qualify.

I am sorry to drag this old thread out of the cupboard but people I know are still getting cash returned to them when they paid up their mortgage. any one that did any foreign exchange with AIB Uk and Ireland , will you where over charged , so if dont trought you bank account , found out throught mate in Uk and went looking for it and got lot money back
