Cash machines

My OH says it's La caixa that are charging a ridiculous 4 euros to take out 40.
Should I change my bank to one that doesn't charge at my local machine? If so...which one?
Sorry. 4 to take out 50. Still a ripoff!

Re: Cash machines

Also, since this charge was to take money out of my business account for posting...is it tax deductible?

Don't quite understand. Is your bank La Caixa - or is that your local cash machine?

Re: Cash machines

Doubtless they are all trying to recoup lost monies via new charges but the system was:
There are 3 systems in Spain:
ServiRed
Euro 6000
Telebanco (I think it is still called)

all banks work with 1 of the above - so for instance I bank with Caja Murcia and they are with Euro 6000
so any withdrawal at a Caja Murcia branch machine costs nothing
at a Euro6000 machine with any other bank it costs a little
using my card with a non Euro6000 machine costs more.

So always use your banks machines firstly, secondly a machine of the same group type and lastly (in emergencies) at another type all together.

Of course the next problem is the outrageous charges they are now making for the cards for us not to use their employees thereby increasing their costs!

My bank is part of the ServiRed network. All withdrawals from any ATM on the ServiRed network are free for me. If I were to use Euro6000 or Telebanco ATM then I would charged a fee.

Yes looking at the receipt it's for a Euro600 machine. My bank is Lacaixa. Unfortunately living in a village there are very few options. I usually keep a bit of cash rather than using the card machines too much but things are a bit tight this month and it costs more to go to the town than to pay at the machine. But i don't call 4 euros a little on a withdrawal of 50 euros. It's 8 percent!

As the earlier posts state you need to use the 'free' ATMs. If there is only one in your village, change to a bank that gives free withdrawals.

Re: Cash machines

Suppose it's a minimum fee so on small withdrawals it looks outrageous. It's a shame the idea of cashback does not seem to have caught on over here.

Re: Cash machines

All cash machines tell you, if and how much you will be charged before you withdraw the cash.

It costs money to maintain a service in small villages and it makes sense to support your local bank.
