Re: Care homes in Spain
What requirements must you meet?
People with any physical, mental, intellectual or sensory limitations can apply for this support when they depend totally or partially on someone else to carry out their daily basic activities. If you fall into any of these categories, you should meet these requirements:- Be a Spanish citizen and reside in Spain. Moreover, residents should have lived in the country for at least five years, of which the last two should be immediately prior to the application for support; or be a Spanish returnee.

Re: Care homes in Spain
the father of my GF is stage 3 and lives with her and live in support paid thru the state. I think stage 3 is the minimum without paying for private care but "at home services" may be provided depending on income level. placing him in an adult facility once stage 3 is confirmed takes about 2-3 months.
this is the valencia region, might be different (quicker or slower) in your region.
All of this is thru a social worker at the local health center.

Re: Care homes in Spain
I have a UK born in-law who is a Spanish resident who is now in a care home paid for by the State as he has no money of his own. Sorry, can't give you details other than he is suffering from dementia, quite severely and was picked up by the social services after ending up living on the streets. I remember it took about six months or so for him to go through the bureaucracy to get to that stage with numerous hospital/doctor and specialist visits - all actually organised, arranged and accompanied him to them by the social services.
