Cool Car Rental to Malaga

Hi I am looking to hire a car in Ayamonte or Isla Canela and drop off at Malaga Airport, does anyone know any rental companies? trying to avoid going into Huelva. First time to the area, flying into Faro but hire car costs for one way are horrendous so going to get a transfer to Ayamonte and spend some time there before travelling on. Thanks

There is a hire car company just opposite the main entrance to the Ayamonte Bus Station name is something like Vista (someone will know the name). Also an agency down at Isla Canela in the shopping at the Marina.

It may be a tad cheaper to hire one way this side of the border but whichever way you do it it will be expensive. As an alternative you could look at an express coach from the Bus Station though even that will go via Huelva, Sevilla and possibly Cordoba.

Vostok is the hire company and they are oposite the marina now. We used them and were happy with the service. Is there a train to Malaga from Seville?

There certainly used to be a train from Sevilla to Malaga as we used it a few years ago. We wanted to spend a week on the Algarve then a long weekend in Sevilla followed by a week on the Costa del Sol. Car hire for the entire holiday picking up in Faro and returning to Malaga was just short of €1000. Instead we got a coach from Faro to Seville for about €12.50 each then a train from Sevilla to Malaga for €13.50 each. We enjoyed both journeys as we were able to see things you couldn't see from a car.

IMO, I'd look at hiring a car from Huelva.*

Take the Damas bus from Ayamonte bus station to Huelva bus station (one hour journey). Going by bus means you can enjoy Huelva city without the hassle of car parking.

Larger rental car companies offer collection at Huelva train station (next door from bus station). Economy car hire, amongst others, do one way rentals Huelva - Málaga.

It all depends on how much you require the "freedom" of having a car.

* Easy to navigate your way out of the city, heading in the direction of Portugal (Ayamonte).

Add P.S.

Do check the small print in the T&C for car hire re: crossing the border into Portugal (if this is part of your travel plans).
Of course, there is the option to cross as a foot passenger aboard the ferry.

Hope this helps.
