Car registration - Andorra MT tourist plates

Hi.

I have heard the the Spanish police have been getting tough on expats resident in Spain who keep foreign registered cars (instead of changing to Spanish plates) and this can unwittingly impact on foreign visitors.

For example, many UK drivers surrender their VED (car tax disc) on leaving the UK shores for the summer months. Car is not being used on a UK road. Friends had problems visiting Spain as "the car did not conform to the regulations of the home country" (ie you need a tax disc while on a UK road).

Please has anyone any experience of this?

I have a car on Andorran MT tourist plates (saves nomadic expats a fortune in VAT etc) and may visit Spain this year.
Please anyone know if the Spanish police cause problems to these plates too?

many thanks

I have seen a lot of Andorran plates around my area and appear to be no problem. re the Police getting hot on foreign plates, that is quite true, but it is mainly the people like myself who have residencia they are after. We have had a few visitors that have driven down with no problems.
