Car insurance - Car not listed
 

Hi everybody!

I looked into the forum to see if other people had the same problem as me, but didn't find anything.

Maybe someone will be able to help me...

I am new resident in Spain. Before I was living in France.

I took my car with me, purchased in France, and I processed all the steps to register it in Spain.
There was no problem with that (ITV ok, IVTM paid, impuestos..)

The problem I have now is about car insurance : the model I own was never sold in Spain, so it doesn't appear on the list of car insurers.

It is an OPEL (Vauxhall in UK) Insigna, Gasolina, 160CV, model 2015.

Was never sold here (with this engine), and all the insurer I talked to told me :
- we cannot insure this car because it is not on our list
- or they can make a contract with another similar model (not the exact model : another engine/other year..!).

I don't really like this second option, as I guess that in case of important accident, the insurance could tell the model was not the same, and not cover me.

Is there anybody here who had the same issue ??

My suggestion is to talk with a professional insurance broker (corredor) who will be able to place the risk with a company that can offer a suitable policy.

That what I did : the only thing they offer is a contract with a similar car model, but diferent (not the same engine)...!

You could try Expat car insurance in Spain, motor, medical, travel, pet, holiday homes, marine insurance, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar
They insure in Gibraltar, Spain and Portugal and may have a wider choice of model information.

So I contacted LibertySeguros, and they were very helpful and made ma a contract (with their brand named Regal) at a good price for my vehicle.
