Car insurance

Does anyone know if it is possible to insure a car with English matriculation with a Spanish insurance company? If so, Which company would you advice?

I would advise you to put your car on Spanish plates and save the risk of having it crushed.

Thanks, but it's not Marbella where I live. I also heard that it is not neccesary anymore to change a car over to Spanish plates. Is that true?

We have some friends here who still have English plates and have insurance through a Spanish insurance company. Can't say which one but I feel that they can't possibly be legal even though they are convinced that they are legal  We have two other friends both of whom had their cars impounded for not changing to Spanish plates even though they had Spanish insurance. So I would advise anyone to change to Spanish plates. It just isn't worth taking a chance and sweating every time you see the guardia.

That´s why I´ve posted my question.

Thank you all for your replies, decided against the purchase because:

1) You will have to change a foreign car to Spanish plates if it´s longer in the country than 6 months.

2) You Cannot insure a car with foreign plates with a Spanish insurance company.(THe ones I asked: Mapfre, Fenix, Linea Directa, Direct Seguros)

Hi

Abbeygate do insure british plated cars, and also I have a local guy Everisto who also can do it. But much better to replate - costs around 600 euros plus headlights if necessary.
