The wise one has also informed me that if the patient has a 'partner' who has a proper SIP card, he can get treatment on his partner's medical card.

The Autonomous Region provides the actual health care, not INSS, hence the reason for asking the Autonomous Region for help.

As is normal, the staff at the health centre may not know the rules, and might send one to INSS, which is unnecessary.

If there is a problem at the health centre, a visit to INSS and a phone call by them generally rectifies the situation.
As I understand it, one has to go to the INSS offices to get form E106 ratified. With the correct paperwork, one then goes to the medical centre to get the SIP card.

In this particular case, that's where the problem then started. The medical centre took all the forms from INSS (and Valencia) but also asked for the EHIC card. They then ignored the forms and used the EHIC card to issue TOURIST SIP cards!!!

As others have commented, it's the medical centres that don't know their ar*e from their elbow and keep making basic errors.

DWPinSpain are helping resolve this issue now but what a complete farce and waste of time/money!

The problem was giving them the EHIC, you can see there point as they are only for use by a tourist from the UK to use while they are in Spain.
As he lived here he shouldn`t of had one in the first place, he would of had a Spanish one, until the rule that has just changed where the UK supply them if you are on a E106 in Spain.
