Hmmm.
We've a local policeman who's bought a house across the road a few months ago......the other day I saw our opposite neighbours who are the presidents of their community (we're of ours) so we're always talking shop....
A British family have moved in around a month ago with a dog who continuously barks, it is always in the house and apparently the noise just travels through the walls (we don't hear this dog, my other thread is a different dog!
) well apparently the policeman wasn't too happy...... he offered my neighbour the number to call..... but also mentioned he wasn't too happy himself (my neighbours have gone on hols for ages hence why I've been asking if anyone else knows this number and we've not met the copper yet and don't want to go knocking on his door!).......anyway, the police turned up at their door today and I am intrigued!
I went off there, back on subject; well apparently this same cop was asking about all of the UK plated cars and Gib plated cars within their urb and ours opposite...... obviously our friend pleaded ignorance and didn't say anything......but what was interesting was that he was asking about the Gib plated cars also....... the cop said that it was illegal to have a Gib car if you are not a Gib resident......
Is this true?
and secondly, as the presidents of our community should we say anything to our neighbours? would you take it as a friendly warning or would you take it the wrong way?
We have known about this for a week or so and didn't think anything would come of it....... but what if the police were at that families door due to this cop reporting their dog?
if he did that he could also report the cars...
What should we do?

Hi Bomber Harris....
I don't know what the case is...... but these seem to be people with either Uk plated cars (and obviously living here, so if mr cop wants to act upon that its up to him)...... or Gib plated ones...
It is the Gib ones that I am confused about..... the Gibraltarians are different they are residents of Gib and have bought their Spanish house (their 2nd home) with a NIE number but are residents of Gib and so slip through the net with their Gib plated cars....
Apart from the Uk plated cars, the policeman's issue was with the Brits and the Polish that have Gib plated cars..... he said that if they are not Gib residents they cannot own Gib cars.......Some of these people work in Gib, some Spain, some legally, some not legally and some not at all.... I reckon they've all got an NIE number but cannot see them being full residents of Spain........ so is that true, are they not allowed Gib plated cars?

Spain interprets this as VAT paid.
Gibraltar does not have VAT, although the cars are duty paid. ( mind you Spain insists Gibraltar is not in the EU unless it is on points that are financially beneficial to Spain )
Therefore the only people who can drive Gibraltar registered cars in Spain are Gibraltar residents and people from outside the EU who are not resident in Spain. ( Americans Russians etc. )
This Spanish interpretation has lead to the car hire companies in Gibraltar using Spanish registered cars to save hassle.
