Hi Everyone

I have just joined the community as in 4 weeks time, my husband and I are moving to Nerja in Spain for 5 months. I have often browsed the forum and find it extremely useful. We have recently retired and may extend our Spanish adventure well beyond the 5 months if we can find somewhere nice to rent. I know that we will need S1 forms to access the Spanish Healthcare System but I am slightly concerned about ordering these from Newcastle before we go as we will be removed from the NHS immediately. Does anybody know if we can telephone or email the National Pension Centre and order a S1 Form after we have been in Spain a few months?

yes, you can phone the DWP when you are settled & ask for the S1 forms


please bear in mind that if you're here longer than 3 months you are considered to be resident in Spain & should register as such - & even if you don't register, you would still be considered to be resident & shouldn't use your EHIC after that time

Ring them now as you dont have to be in Spain to get the forms..

They specifically don't want to order them from the UK, as they don't yet know whether or not they will be staying in Spain!

Ring Newcastle and tell them what your going to do.. You can get the forms now and send them back when you get to Spain..

Thanks for all the advice, we will definitely register after 3 months and apply for the S1 when we're there. That's one less thing to worry about!
