Default Can I run a market stall?

Hello, I am staying in Vera at the moment, I recently moved from the Costa Blanca.

I was wondering how I would go about setting up a market stall, I have read that some markets will just take cash on the day and for others you have to go through the town hall.

I want to sell books, I was thinking of a book shop but thought I would start out with a market stall.

Any information on this would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

I think with car boot type markets you just get there early to get a good pitch and pay on the day. The other big markets are dealt with by the town hall

Thanks, do you know if there is a limit on what you can and can't sell at the main big markets?

You will have to apply for a license and permission, the cops are at every market checking the papers, you usually see them hanging in the stall.

They probably won't give you a license if you want to sell food products, or anything already being sold or of course if they don't have a plot.

It can be a drawn out affair almost as if they couldn't care less attitude.

Its quite amusing when the guardia turn up and the lookie lookie men just grab all their wares and run. They lay everything out on a sheet for an easy grab and getaway lol!!!

I think the food licence is a hard one as you have to have your storage and preparation premises certified (I used to work in a cafe who thought about branching out into market food)???

In Galicia you have two types of markets. The first is where there is a waiting list (here 3 years wait for a pitch), and then there is the "open" market where you turn up the on the day. For both you still need paperwork from the Town Hall and you also need to be registered as autonomo.

but market traders don't have to pay the full amount, there is a discount of IIRC 50% but its in the regulations
