Default Can I re-register my English Car

Whilst making enquiries regarding re-registering my English vehicle in Spain, I have been told that it is not possible, because I was registered on the Padron prior to purchasing the vehicle, although I do not have Residencia.

This being the case I can't get it ITV'd which will make the insurance invalied should I have cause to make a claim.

Can anyone tell me if this is always the case, or if there is something I can do to get it re-registered.
Regards

Hi

Yes of course you can re-register your car; the only "difference" is that you will have to pay the first registration tax - you will not be able to escape this as you will not be importing yur car as part of your initial move

Thanks for that Dave,

It was the company who re-regidtered my other car when I first came to Spain who gave me the other information.

I don't suppose you can point me in the right direction of how to go about it, as they were my only contacts

Thanks again

Hi Polly

Which area are you in? How's your Spanish - the process is not difficult if you have the right paperwork

I'm in Benissa. Don't know if you know it, it's just north of Benidorm. My Spanish I am ashamed to say is almost none existant, but my friend is very good.

Just one other thought. The car was originally imported into the UK from Japan, would this have a bearing on it's re-registration

I have a gestor in Javea that specialises in cars, and indeed did my Japanese grey import when I bought that

Thanks for that Miztyboy.

Can you give me his phone number. I have been told that it's because it's a Toyota Lucida and it's not approved for Europe only Japan. But I'll certainly give your gestor a call to make sure.

The Gestor has got through two Mitsubihi FTO's that I know of. These are cars produced only for the Japanese market. If you imported yours then it will have gone through an SVA when it went through the MOT I think, and that seems to have been sufficient when we bought ours in as the SVA confirmed it was OK for European standards.

If you call 608 86 07 25 this guys brother (Marcello) is the guy that does it. Just ask him for Marcellos number for getting a car matriculated. The are both Dutch, and nice people to deal with. (I cant find Marcellos card / no at the moment)

Hi

I have had loadsa problems with Toyota Lucidas Previas etc. Lights can be very difficult - we even had one customer who paid 1,000 euros to have the bodywork altered to fit someone elses lights.

Also remember now that rear lights have to conform if you only have one reversing or one hi-intensity rear light (two is OK)

At the moment maybe but unfortunatley some jobsworth will pick up on it eventualy.
ITV tests are definatley getting stricter , the testers are making extra work to avoid job cutbacks.

Thanks again Mitzyboy,

I have contacted Marcello and he was very helpful.
I have also found someone who can adjust the headlights to comply. The only problem with him is that he is quite a distance away and needs the car for two days. I might try and find someone a little closer to home.

Many thanks
