why Jehovah Witnesses are going around my town knocking on doors when Spain is predominantly Catholic and we have just had our most important religious fiesta.

Sorry I cannot answer the question but a friend back in Scotland who is a Born Again Christain invites them to pray and they are soon gone.


Many years ago I lived several miles up a farm road and was visited by several different religions trying to convert me to their faith. Maybe they thought living so far out in the country I must be in need of a religion :eek:

I have only knowingly had close contact with one Jehovah's Witness.
Knowing his thieving history all I can say is there must be money in it.

why did Spain, Portugal and Britain send evangelists to spread the religious word to the savages in Africa and the East ??

there will always be a convert here or there, someone who is disillusioned with what they have

There must be money in it and loads of it. When I lived in Scotland years ago there was Jehovah meeting house across the road the line of top of range motors filled the street and some. They were all very well dressed right down the children and their top of range prams/pushchairs.

Perth in Scotland has a huge Jehovah Witness Convention yearly I think and they come from miles around to it. Top hotels and guest houses used to all be booked up.

When I was in primary school our neighbours were Jehovah Witnesses and a nicer friendly helpful couple I have seldom met since. I kept up with them for years. They never once mentioned their faith to me or my family. That is the way I like it.

I don't know about there being loads of money in it, as I don't know much about JWs except that they don't celebrate Christmas.

But just thinking about the savings made by not having to buy the family prezzies, new clothes and food and drink for the Christmas festivities would have saved us a packet over the years.

Oh and of course the ban on blood transfusions.

When we lived in the UK, we found having a Blood Donor sticker in our window worked wonders in keeping them away from our door!

Nowadays we either don't answer if we know it's them calling, or have to resort to being very abrupt if not downright rude to get rid of them.

I don't like unsolicited callers either at the door or on the 'phone who are trying to sell me something, religion least of all.

Must admit that we only get them about once a year or maybe even every other year so not so bad as it was in the UK.

Good job my OH was not a JW because he had well over 70 bags of blood during his illness.

Phone calls are the easiest to fend off now because I act dim (no comments to that please) and say that I do not understand and do not speak Spanish. It has only backfired on me once when the person said I speak perfect English so I will tell you what I can offer you, I still said no at the end though.

They are even here, some live down the road, below us and when they go to Kingdom Hall, their damned dog yaps until they return.

Every now and then they knock on our door and try to give me leaflets in German, that is because here on the Meridian Isle, all foreigners are considered to be German. They are utterly baffled when I tell them I am not German.

The JWs believe in Armageddon - the end of the world is nigh, and all that. Only the establishment of God's Kingdom on earth will save mankind. They feel it is their moral duty to tell the world and save our souls.

They used to be banned in Spain because they refused to do military service, which was compulsory here until 2001.

I love it when I get a phone call offering me new windows or soffetts etc. I let them go through the whole spiel and sometimes even ask them to repeat the best bits, then I tell them I live in a council house, lol you can almost feel the steam coming off them ha ha ha ha

A friend of mine once spent 20 minutes chatting to a conservatory salesman before telling him her flat was on the first floor ... :lol:

I have done similar to that, spiel, questions etc and then said something like "what a shame that you did not ring me before because I have just had all of that done"
