BANK CHARGES:

Hi

I wanted to warn you about the CRAZY charges they have in Spain for bank transfers... Id go as far as to say its criminal. Certainly with the Santander bank - I've mentioned this before.

Let me first say however that the local staff are corteous, polite and very helpful - they seem to be hampered by orders from above. I have done many international transactions before all over the world - but this is amazing.

MONEY IN: I know someone who was charged around 90x what my bank would charge for receiving a similar sum of money.... no typo, that is NINETY. My UK bank charges a maximum of 7quid to receive my money

MONEY OUT: I asked recently what the charge would be to transfer 100,000 Euros out of spain (eg when we sell etc) the answer 500Euros. WHAT! I pay a MAXIMUM of 40 pounds for transfers out from the UK (16UKP minimum).

Sure there are charges to send and to receive - but this is crazy.

Be very careful about this and I suggest that you speak to your bank before before any major transaction.

On that note can anybody recommend a bank in Spain (Preferably Ayamonte) where I can transfer money IN and OUT - at what is not a rip off rate please. Also any idea, please, of what charges you pay for moving money too?

Thanks
Jon (AKA Mr Angry, today!)

Recommend a bank is not something I can do, but if you are transferring monies in,use a currency mover like Curriencies direct who have an agreement with a lot of banks for no landing charges( Santander is not on their list). Or Hifx who have a deal with nearly all banks, Hifx currently being the most used by my clients here in Ayamonte. I can only back what you said ,check with your bank before you do anything. I personally have withdrawn and lodged in other banks to avoid some crazy fees on my money.
