It will take you about 1 1/2 hours or less depending on the traffic, best route would be via Los Barrios coming off at Chiclana. Places to see, well Camera obscuro gives fantastic views of the city, the cathedral and museum, parques jovenes, best thing is just to wander around the old town. For eating, the tapas at El Veedor, Balandro, El Faro or Aljibe cannot be beat. Hope you have a good trip.

A beautiful city with a lovely coast line. Just wander around the old part and enjoy. On your way back come off at junction 10 and take a detour down to La Barossa beach or Conil or go back the coast road and visit the old Roman ruins of Bolonia set right on the beach with a backdrop of the mountains and free entry. Marvellous.

I would echo Chiclanagirl's suggestion of visiting Bolonia. Fabulous. My favourite beach in this part of Cadiz. When I last visited the ruins we needed i.d. (passport or residencia card) to prove that we were European in order to get in free. There are some great fish restaurants by the beach, just past the ruins. Our favourite is the one closest to the beach. Swimming is great there too.

Perhaps for another day, maybe take a breakfast picnic to the beach in front of the Dos Mares hotel (on the coast road between Bolonia and Tarifa) and then have coffee at Dos Mares and a walk on the lovely beach. Or lunch either at Dos Mares or at the nearly next-door Artevida. Or go into Tarifa town for a mooch round, coffee and churros. :D

"bar habana" , on la barossa beach serves the best steak i have ever had in my life, but not cheap, but worth the journey.

Jerez is also worth a visit.

Just head for the old town, wander around and explore, there are plenty of good places to eat. There are bus tours, but it´s probably best to walk as it´s not so big.
You could also hop on the catamaran to El Puerto where I live, takes about 20mins, price 1,90 ish.

Cádiz is lovely. The museum in Plaza Mina is nice, and airconditioned, a huge bonus this time of year! The square itself has a few nice restaurants for tapas and a great icecream place that my daughter loved.

The cathedral have opened up the tower at the moment. I forget how much it is but the views are spectacular.

On the Los Barrios to Jerez autovia at a place called La Palmosa which is at the Alcala de los Gazules turn off, there is a furniture warehouse place that is worth looking at if you are taking this road. As you look at this small industrial estate from the autovia, it is on the far right. Next door there is a large venta type eatery.
