Buying a washing machine

I am a UK resident with a second home in Spain. All my worldly goods in Spain were all bought new as a package along with the property 10 years ago, and so are all now breaking down, all at the same time! On my last morning in Spain recently before returning home, my washing machine broke down irrepairably, so it looks like I need a new one! Has anyone advice about replacing it, ie. where to buy (Carrefour have a few in) and what to do with the old one??? I have been advised to buy a Balay make, but don't know it. Has anyone experience of that make? I am told it is a good one!? I have been given mixed messages about who will take the old one away to dispose of it. Surely the supplier would take away the old one - well, at least that's what happens in the UK?
Thanks in anticipation....YogiD

We had to replace a fridge, took the old one to a re cycling centre, Bosslady uses a Schneider washing machine, front loader, no problems with it so far.

Balay (I think) is actually made by Bosch - so a good make.

Most companies will take the old one away with them.

My washing machine has a Balay label but is actually a Bosch. I buy almost all of my electrical items from Tien 21 who always take the old away when they come to install the new.

Just to add another layer to the Balay family tree, Bosch is owned by Seimens.

We have a number of Balay/Bosch devices and they are excellent. There are big discounts available on these brands. Look at Electrónica a precios baratos | redcoon.es for the lowest prices. If you local store can get near to those prices and install and remove the old one, then you will have a good deal.

Do the same as you would in UK shop around for best deal, look at models prices and reviews on internet etc.

Most shops will deliver and take your old one away so many shops to choose from

Carrefour
Media Markt
Euronics
Al Campo
Conforma
Tien 21
On line
etc.

Re: Buying a washing machine

We bought a Balay fridge freezer a few years back because we were told it was made by Bosch. Worst appliance I've ever owned. Both door handles have broken and been replaced and the outside finish of the doors of both the fridge and freezer have rusted badly and I have had to clean it off and spray over the areas. Also the rubber seals have perished and a lot of the interior plastic doors have broken.
Will be getting a new one soon and it will not be made by Balay!
Maybe we were just unlucky!

We have a balay washing machine... to be honest, I don't like it that much. I liked the Indesit I had before.
My only suggestion is to go for the A+++ models. I read it somewhere that the A+++ is way better with energy efficiency than the A++. The price difference was not to big when we bought our. Supposedly the biggest difference is for fridges though between the A++ and A+++ :D Living offgrid with solar panels makes you look into every consumed W.

Suggestion: whichever one you favour check instructions are in English before buying unless you read Spanish. Many can be downloaded free from the web though some are chargeable. We bought a Zanussi here in Torrevieja 10 years ago from RedDer by the Lounge bar by the needle.

Stores will deliver often free (apart from Media Mart 29€, Conforma 10€ & Millar 29€ that I know of), unpack & set up then remove packing & old machine free.
