It's a Porsche Turbo, 18 months old. The import figure was import duty, agents fees etc and took it to way more than the cost of buying a new one here.

I have a house just under an hour's drive inland. By bus with connections...6 hours.

You did well to get an 18 month old Porsche for under €41,000 !

So if the import cost was 41,000 and that was way more than a new one, it follows that the new one was under 41,000 ? or perhaps your 'wit' has confused me

Easily done. Shall I break it down for you? Adding 41,000 in fees and import duty to the value of the car took it beyond the price of buying a new car in Spain. Perhaps your grasp of grammar is not as clear as you think......

Now play nicely....

Ooops .... The grammar/language Police are out in force today ....... I would beg to differ whether these are English words, certainly not nonsense or gibberish ...... yes its an acknowledged north american term or phrase to accept a mistake but what is wrong with that may I ask ? Ive worked for a US company for many years and spent countless time there, so not really surprising I pick up the odd phrase.

Its a British Expat forum ........ I'm British and an Expat ....... do you really need to correct a posters terminology wherever it may come from ?

The Grammar Police have no role here as it is the Slang Police that you've been pulled by!

Consider yourself nicked!

The figure quoted seems very high. Before Brexit there was no import duty on previously owned cars. What was erroneously called import duty was actually the first registration tax which applies to all cars on first registration in Spain. Based on CO2 emissions the maximum was 14.75% of the current value.

After Brexit it is possible that import duty now applies. Does anyone have a definitive (quoting the source) answer to that. If import duty does now apply it could account for the amount quoted. If so it knocks on the head any possibility of importing a car from the UK.
