Buying things from uk sellers ?
Hello everyone, i've seen various 'my brother told me' and 'the man in the pub' stories..
has anyone bought / tried to buy anything from the UK at all? Since brexit happened, im thinking that postage is now 'international' and there would be some tax to pay?
I saw a story about a bluetooth speaker for 130 pounds, 15 pounds shipping (to n.i) and a 40 pounds surcharge for 'import tax?' That seems a little crazy to me, but expected... I bet people wern't expecting that.

One thing that i know is true - our company accepts transfers from the UK for yearly contracts, and the bank is charging €15 per transfer now.

Re: Buying things from uk sellers ?
My husband has just received a Christmas present from his son, posted in early December, which the tracking system showed was held up for quite some time for what the system said were customs checks (which shouldn't have applied, surely, as it was sent well before 31 December. But if that's any indication of how long it's going to take for things to get here then I should think a lot of people won't bother. For a small item the postage was over 11 pounds so as higher non EU rates will now apply that will make it a lot less appealing to send things to or from the UK as well.

I`m surprised people are surprised that they will have to pay duties now , if you live in the EU and buy from the UK and vice versa of course you will have to pay duties ,the same as you would if you imported goods from any other non EU country into the EU.

I had a parcel sent from a football club on Dec 10th, still not received it and as they are unable to trace it they are refunding the money. The cost of item was £70 + £15 pp but the bank has taken an extra 14 euros, waiting to see how much they will refund me.

It's extremely complex and not just down to Brexit.
The EU and the UK are cracking down regardless especially on online purchases.
More or less the big brexit change in this type of scenario is a UK ( ex NI ) supplier supplying someone in the EU should not charge VAT as it is now considered zero rated and attach a customs form to the package.
The 1st EU country of import can then charge their equivalent of VAT.

Lots of UK countries are not supplying to EU countries, Amazon certainly will not, you have to either buy from Amazon in your own country or in another EU country.

It's worse.
For instance, if you're planning to travel from UK with high value items such as laptops and jewellery etc. (anything over £135 actually) you could well find customs in the EU charging you duty on them. They have the power to confiscate if you refuse to pay.
Who remembers the old days when if you had a car accident in the EU and the vehicle was written off, and therefore not recovered to UK, you stood to be charged import duty on it.
And talking of car accidents have one now and UK insurance companies will no longer pursue a claim on your behalf so you will have to do it yourself and in the country where the accident occurred.
Brexiteers knew all this of course when they put their thumbprint in the leave box!
