Default Buying a R/H drive van in Spain

Hope someone can help.
I've been offered the chance to buy a cheap UK Plated R/H drive van in Malaga.
It been there for over 5 years no tax or insurance but very low mileage, it's been parked up but seems a good runner.
I'm flying down and want to drive it back to UK and get it MOT'd once back and once MOT'd get it insured. How am I fixed driving it back, can I drive with no MOT but then I won't have insurance or can I insure it without MOT for the journey to UK.
Sounds a bit of a long winded way but I'm doing a house up in UK and the van is a really good buy, but not so good if I have to transport it on a low loader.
All help gratefully received.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Paul.

As it`s illegal in the country of registration then it is illegal anywhere.
Lowloader is the only way, and you will probably get stuffed for the missing tax and fined.

I thought most, if not all, UK ports have cameras which recognise reg plates. If they pick you up with no paperwork then it is money wasted.

If you shop around you will get it back on a low loader for less than a grand, it will cost 600 plus to drive it with fuel , hotel, ferry costs , time away from work etc, ,and if its been stood 5 years it may well break down on the way back so you will then need a low loader,

If you are sure yu can drive safely back, get it insured, make an appointment for an MOT. test and get it in writingt for that day (Fax) date and time so if you are stopped on the way in uk you can show that you are going for the MOT. Also have a motor tax form made out for that day so you can taxit immediatly (cheque made out to DVLA).

I'm not rushing to tell you anything, I was just wondering how you get around the fact that you havent got any road tax. Presumably if you are shot by a camera check on the way then you have a fine on your hands?

Hi

The wonderful thing about buying a British registered van abroad and driving it back to England is that any fines go to the previous owner (you don't own it YET)

Davexf tongue very firmly in cheek !!!

All very well in theory but if you are stopped without an MOT the first thing the police will do before they let you continue is send out a traffic unit to give it a once over.

Not always as its happend to me, and why would that be a problem? ,so long as your not taking the .iss in an obviously dangerous car your not breaking the law.
Anyway the only ones likley to stop you are traffic.
