Default Buying a car - UK or Spain?

Hi

We're moving to Playa Flamenca in October and need to buy a car. Although there are a few LHD car dealers in the UK, we wondered whether it was easier/cheaper to buy in Spain?

Also, does anyone know of any reputable dealers in the area.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks

New or segundo mano? there are a lot of dealers, both the main ones for each marque, and plenty of reputable second hand ones, plus a lot of dubious ones. New car dealers mainly in Torrevieja, but second hand ones all along the costa, round where you are moving, Punta Prima and Cabo Roig have some decent ones. Used cars are slightly more expensive over here, but buying one in the UK means that you will have to get it matriculated onto Spanish plates when you get here, and that will even the price up. I would wait till you get out here, it's a simple thing to do.

To be honest it boils down to do you need a car to help you move? or immediately once you're in Spain?

If the answer is yes then obviously LHD in the UK.

If you can wait until you have set up your N.I.E number etc then wait for Spain, but be prepared for higher prices, especially on the pre-owned vehicles.

Registering a new to newish (say within the last 8 years) LHD car in Spain is quite straight forward, so I wouldn't be to concerned with that.

Bare in mind that there will be import duty of 12% of what they say your car is worth if you have not owned the vehicle for longer than six months before going to Spain.

Have a look at the 'free beer' thread for further details or use the search button it's probably the most popular type of thread.

Hope this has helped.
