BT (as in British telecom)..

I am enquiring to ascertain if anyone has used BT Arrakis service or any other BT services...

Where we live, our English Conexiones Centre has made enquires for an alternative ADSL supplier and we are thinking of signing up as we would save about 20 euros a month compared to Movistar...

Regards

I seem to recall this being discussed before (unless I'm really losing it) and the comments were not good.

They have been mentioned before and nearly all the comments were negative.

I think the main confussion is that it's not actually BT.

The conclusion for most of the posts about Telefonica / Movistar was "better the devil you know"

Do a simple search for BT.

Just one I found was Item #7 where missile comments about BT's customer service.

Also this here

Thanks for the replies...

All we are trying to do, as are so many others, is to find an ADSL supplier who will supply a decent service, without having to pay exorbitant amounts of euros......our Movistar monthly bill is now over 75€ for SFA.......

We have no objection to paying the Line Rental, but to pay 50€ a month on top, for an ADSL service, where we are lucky to get 1mbps download......

We notice someone in our village has gone over to WiMAX, which I gather is around 33€ a month inclusive of IVA for around 4mbps download.....so we may go down that route.......

Even after all years we have lived here, it is still frustrating to get a straight answer from any ADSL supplier.....

Welcome to Spain - some things are just so much more expensive than in UK. ADSL is just one of the many things!

There are bargains to be had with telefonica. I live in the campo so only get 1mbps but still have to pay 30€ for ADSL plus 14€ for line rental (plus IVA)

Find someone who can discuss (argue) with telefonica in Spanish and find yourself a deal:thumbup:

I live in the sticks and pay 29 euros for 3mb with Movistar, line rental is 13 euros. I have seen others here paying 50+ so I don't understand why.

Because that was the old charge (well, about €40 for just ADSL) and they refuse to lower the price for existing customers.

That`s right, they wouldn`t change it for us, when we moved we cancelled the contract and opened a new one for about 20€´s less with up to 10 mb adsl instead of 1/2 mb

Re: BT (as in British telecom)..

Vodafone will take over your Telefonica landline & supply ADSL 3meg for.....
Line rental 15eu
ADSL for 19.90 (3 meg)
The first 6 months are at half price, and the 12 months at 19.90.
WiFi router supplied with a free 2g dongle to use until the line becomes theirs from Telefonica (up to 2 months), btw 2g is slow as you would expect being free.
You can though upgrade the package at anytime to include a 6meg 3g dongle for about 6eu a month should you need to become mobile.

Telefonica would no longer give me the 3meg 19.90 (been two years on this) so I decided to switch to Vodafone who will/have.

Do you get a signal ? Cos I know someone that has permanent problems and is more or less on 2G all the time.

Sounds a good deal but........
They appear to have a very limited area that has cover, which seems odd with a landline service, doesn't cover my area anyway.
I seem to remember a thread before where some people had threatened to change operators to get movistar to give them a better deal.

Well in Valencia very poor, but I changed the landline connection so I guess it will be identical.
Vodafone also throw in free Spanish fixed & free weekend mobile calls (which I like) as part of the package.

I find it shocking how much people are paying for ADSL in Spain and keep up to date with reports and mails about the various "offers" (if you can call them that).

We launched into the ex pat market recently thinking that sales and support in English would be the selling point and it isn't because people are keen to save money first and foremost.

Of course they do, it`s not rocket science.
What pisses me off is the prices you all charge for a service that is so much cheaper in the UK, TV, 20mg adsl and free local calls for 20 squid.

What also pisses me off is that a new customer (in town) is being charged 19 euros for 10Mb adsl including line rental etc. whilst existing customers have to pay full whack at 39 euros plus 14 for line rental.

I was paying more than that till we moved and opened a new account at that price, we were paying around 70€'s now it`s around 40€'s + over 3 times as strong.

I've found customers paying more, me included...

Changing can always be problematic and then added to that is the great British disease, Apathy.

We do our best to smooth the way though (I think).

Any service other than Telefonica is second tier service , i.e. cadging the line space off Telefonica. Including BT. I used to sell BT abroad services but they are not as good. Telefonica has the monopoly and is the only first tier service in Spain.

The best thing to do is get Telefonica, and once you have it, call up and tell them you saw another service for cheaper, and they will soon find you a cheaper tariff like a miracle. I'm paying about 19€ a month all in now, free calls, unlimited downloads etc. You can't get that with BT.

I agree, sometimes we are more expensive, not often though and I have only found one customer in almost 3 months that was paying 13.97 for their land line with Telefunky and getting all the additional services free.

What seperates me...? Us...? From others...?

I operate the website and have been a designer for over 15 years so it's important to me both from a design perspective and a customer perspective to provide COMPLETE VISIBILITY of the process.

This I achieved earlier today when I implemented a final piece of code on the website that gives users instant access to their applications online.

Now they can login, view how things are progressing and what's more even see what we do outside office hours with their applications.

So, with that in mind and returning to your original question which is valid (although a little grammatically incorrect) I cannot speak for other BT Agents but I have a number of years of experience in sales, marketing and IT. Coupling these together I present way more information than ANY OTHER provider on our website, maybe too much at times. I provide a myriad of ways of communicating with us, as mentioned above: complete visibility. And moreover, I NEVER sell a product to a client if I think they would not save. It simply isn't worth my time or hassle to deal with customer complaints. in short, we do our best to isolate the client from BT and give them as little cause as possible to call for information or to complain.

Let me qualify the above by stipulating once again though, I cannot speak for other BT Agents, providers or individuals in the telecoms industry. I speak for myself and the reality of dealing with me as an individual.

Apathy also springs to mind :)

The errors were there for a reason and now corrected...!

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to shine a light on what CAN BE ACHIEVED if a supplier isn't frightened of telling people the real cost though.

I, like you I hope, hate it when you see an offer with a little star next to the price but no explanation. This is why our conversion to sale is good. We inform the prospective client of everything and what's more are not frightened to deal with problems.

Since, when we made our 1st enquiry about BT in Spain.....which we now gather operate under a franchise type businesses.....we have managed to get Movistar to co-operate in our favour and reduce our total monthly outlay including IVA to what our original subscription was.

They have told us (difficult to obtain anything in writing), that the figure we shall be paying monthly will be static and never increase...

So we are going to stay with Movistar.....better the devil you know, than the devil you don't...

I notice you are close to Alcala la Real.

I think you will find that in Alcala la Real and a few local areas to it, there is a service from Dinfotec who can supply a radio Internet at 1 meg or 1.5 meg speed for €15 and €18 a month (€12 if you just use it between 6 until 8am) with no contract, It's subsidised by the Ayuntamiente and costs €110 for the installation of the small antenna, hope this helps, it's a real Bargain and good service.

Hi I am a customer of BT and have been for years, I admit that they were slow before but they have really sorted themselves out and are now excellent including now offering mobile packages with NO CONTRACT and only 8 cents a minute for uk or spanish mobiles, MEGA CHEAP and because they use the voda network the signal is the best in Spain.

Hello Marcus.
Can you just confirm what you mean by BT ?

BTW always add the connection fee as this gives a more accurate figure.
