When this happened at our place it was because they had switched the water off for a couple of hours but never found out why.

Cause they are basically a lazy bunch and do the minimum amount of work when it requires servicing/mending I.E. never clean anything afterwards :o

you anywhere near Playa Flamenca cos some kind workman put a implement through the water mains supply for the whole of Playa Flamenca. Managed to cause a HUGE flood by the Supercor supermarket. Water was off here from about 4 pm to about 9 pm. then just as we got the water back on, the electricity went off for 90 mins. Water was an 'orrible brown colour at first until the grotty stuff cleared.:D

Unfotunately the water here in Lanzarote is always a grotty colour. Not quite as bad as in your picture, but when you run a bath, it doesn't look very inviting. It stains the sides of the bath too. Here. it's just the sand... but I do sometimes brave it, just so I can have a hot bath instead of a shower.

Do you guys ever drink the tap water? I know people here in Lanzarote who have eased themselves into it slowly over a period of months. But not me, we still don't use it for cooking either. Euurggh! Mind you, bottled water is so cheap, that we just get gallons of that instead.

We drink the tap water here - it's desalinated (big desalination plant nearby), and probably cleaner than the water in the UK. It's very soft though, so not good if you have kidney problems.

When we first started coming here, years ago before we moved here, we rented a villa just outside town, and the water coming out of the taps was actually sea water!

Ah! Well, we have a desalination plant just outside Playa Blanca... but we're yet to see the benefit I guess.
If you were to pour a glass of water here... and then leave it to settle. There would be around 2 or 3 mm of sand in the bottom.
