BRITISH SCOUTING IN SPAIN

Not many people realise that British Scouting is available in Spain. I am the Deputy Scout Commissioner for British Scouting Overseas for France & Iberia. We currently have 4 Scout Groups in France, and 4 in Spain; there is one in Madrid, a strong one in Fuengirola, another in Sotogrande and the other is in Tenerife. We are currently starting to form a Scout Group in Alicante. British Scouting also exists in Gibraltar.

There is a need for British children to enjoy British styled Scouting in Spain. But there are many areas where despite the large British communities, it does not exist. We are looking to resolve this.

So we are currently seeking Scout Leaders for all sections where there is a strong British community. Previous Scouting or Guiding experience is a bonus but not essential as full training is given, and all British Scout Groups are supported by France & Iberia Scout District and through them, British Scouting Overseas. Please note that all Scout leaders are vetted to check they are suitable to work with children both in UK and abroad.

Note we need Scout Leaders to form Scout Groups and Sections at this stage. Please do not contact me yet if you have children who want to join Scouting, that will come when the Groups are formed.

Many thanks

Re: BRITISH SCOUTING IN SPAIN

Hi and a warm welcome to the Spanish forum on BE. Myself and Fred James are the moderators for the Spanish forums whilst BEVS moderates Europe. Moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. This is so that members gain the information that they are looking for and find their experiences on the forums to be friendly and worthwhile.

Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderator who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are usually friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge about the issues of living in Spain. I hope that you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Re: BRITISH SCOUTING IN SPAIN

Thank you Rosemary. We hope to make BE more aware that British Scouting is available in Spain and elsewhere abroad and eventually try and make it available across Spain for adults and/or their children that wish to be members.

I can also advise on most aspects of Scouting and also if someone is leaving Spain and going elsewhere, UK or abroad, I can give them details of who to contact so that they or their children can continue to be involved.

I forgot to say that if someone has recently come to Spain and have children who were already enrolled in Scouts in UK and their Spanish locality already has a Group (see my previous email for locations) then we can take them. Some Groups have waiting lists but as an enrolled Scout they will go to the top of the list.

There is also British Guiding in Spain which operate alongside us but of course, governed by the Girl Guide Association. They have Guide units at the moment in places where we do not and vice versa. Scouting takes girls and boys in all age ranges but if a girl specifically wants to join the Guides then I can probably help them find a local contact if there is one.

Best wishes
