Re: British expat denied return to Spain
OP has still not said if they are actually resident or not.
An said (ad nauseum!) an NIE is NOT residence and despite what anybody has told you about "all rights and purposes" if you do not have a green residencia card then you are NOT resident. |
Re: British expat denied return to Spain
Yes it gets very confusing when people simply refer to NIE.

Re: British expat denied return to Spain
I think this may be the confusion between the old and new cards. Mine was issued in July 2020 and clearly states in English 'This document authorizes residence in Spain.'

That was my original view and does make sense, as you have been resident from the date of issue of green card. Proving it may not be that easy given they take the green card off you when applying for the TIE. As you say good idea to copy it but then they can say it's just a copy not original etc. Unless told I have to do otherwise I will simply retain my green card and exchange it at the 5 year point.
You can always get copy legally certified, so it will be as good as original. Also, you should be able to request copy of your immigration file (GDPR 2016/679) and check what is says for your residency start date. |

Re: British expat denied return to Spain
It must be. The NIE is a white sheet of A4 paper. The green card or form is a document showing registration of your residency in Spain which also shows your NIE number.

Why do some make providing a simple answer like pulling hens teeth?
