An British couple have been found dead in their Spanish chalet after an apparent botched robbery, police said.
Officers discovered two bodies, said to be in their late 70s or early 80s, at their home in Benissa, along the Mediterranean coast.
The couple were said to have been badly beaten.
According to investigators, the pair had been killed following an attempted burglary.
A neighbour sounded the alarm after noticing a window had been forced open.
Benissa is a small town near the city of Alicante and a popular destination for British pensioners.

There has been an update in the papers about this in Costa Blanca a few weeks ago stating that this was not a botched robbery.
The man had died in a fall and the lady had died trying to help him.
