Default Bought cheap movistar phone, getting annoying phone calls every day. help!

hi, bought a cheap mobile phone from Carrefour, elche, and even though i have not given the number out to anyone i keep getting (what i think is) telesales calls, always asking for some fellas name, and i cant work out what they are saying. They have also left voicemails, in spanish, for someone. I even had a call at 2 am this morning, plus i had a telesales call or whatever about 30 mins after i switched the phone on for the 1st time!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont know if the number was assigned to someone else before they gave it to me or if it has been cloned or whatever????????

Does anyone know how i can stop having these calls on my mobile?

any help appreciated

The numbers are recycled when someone cancels their contact or stops paying on a pay as you go .

I get occasional calls from rival companies usually from south americans trying to get me to change but I just cut them off mid-flow.

well the calls coming at 2 am are wearing thin, solution tho of course is to switch it off at night, but i got a text message today which said in Spanish

"ponga fin a esta situacion. Liquide su deuda llamando al 912740251 y prevenga acciones mas graves."

from a company called ACCORDFIN.

havent a clue but i know "graves" is something not good. In fact it sounds quite threatening. ANyone translate that and advise what to do? Cheers.

Accordfin, is a financial institution specialising in personal loans.
The text appears to be them touting for business and translates along the lines of.
"Put an end to your situation, eliminate your debt. Call us and don't let things get worse"

I have had the same phone for about five years - and still get calls looking for the previous holder of the number, a gentleman called Benji who evidently worked in the 'people moving trade' (judging by the North African accents of some callers) and made a lot of money doing it (judging by the calls from various banks) before either changing his name to Fred and moving to Miami... or being currently 'unavailable to come to the phone' while on the bottom of the Mediterranean sea-bed.
In any event, his (my) phone number must be written in pen on the side of a number of Tangiers lavatories which are doubtless in need of a re-paint.
On the other hand - I have a boat leaving from Nuakshot later tonight...

Just using a dictionary, or learning Spanish would sort that problem out.

Put an end to this situation. Pay off your debt by calling xxx before we have to take more serious action...
Sounds like a scam - don't call?!

Whenever I got messages like that, I just got the dictionary out for words I couldn't understand, or copied them into an on line translator. Found I could get the meaning of the sentence, and then decide to ignore it. We got days when we had 4 or 5 messages and phone calls on our Spanish mobile asking for people. Found that saying 'solo inglese' always did the trick, they quickly rang off.

good point! would it be worth learning some rude words to tell them so they get the point, or should i be polite?

I have said so far something along the lines of "tu tienes numero incorrecto. No soy el hombre espanol, soy ingles!

which usually gets rid of them
