I think that was a bad translation from a Spanish newspaper ,"It has some lead flecks on its side indicating that it had been fired from a cannon with a scratched barrel
Should read rifled barrel
So what was the Cantonal War, (1873-1874) all about?

Not sure. To be honest I get confused by all the Carlist war stuff. Spain may have avoided entering World War II, but they've had plenty of other conflicts on home soil to cope with.

Re: Bombs away!
Cartagena declared itself independent of Spain and it took an eighteen month military campaign to help it see the error of its ways.

Thought the thread title might be a reference to the fact that ETA have just renounced all violence and put their "bombs away" for good, or so they say,... again.
Time will tell, but little doubt they have been finding it much more difficult to operate of late, with so many different courses of action being used against them, in addition to declining public sympathy for their methods.
