I'm in Germany. Fireworks have been going since about 3 this afternoon. Starting at midnight, it's been non-stop. 24 minutes into the new year, still sounds like a war zone.

Goddam foreigners.

Happy new year everyone!

Down here in the deep south they have been going off since October and may abate by Easter

Happy New Year to you all.

2012 to 2014 was heaven here at New Year. No fireworks at all which shocked us as our village is all Spanish (apart from us). But (discounting us) the average age is probably 80 so that's probably why. All we had was the church bells at midnight and that's just 12 dings.

But the nietos all arrived this year for New Year so last night there were a few fireworks. Our dogs weren't happy but we just kept them indoors and turned the telly up. Job done.

Our dogs don't poo in the street by the way. They'll only use their "poo patch" which is alongside our home and private property. I trained them to be OCD much like myself (no, I don't have a "poo patch." I use the loo.)

Happy New Year you lot xx

Well they did evacuate 2 major train stations on a "credible tip". Glad it never happened, and that I wasn't in the city expecting to take the sbahn home.

Munich stations evacuated over 'IS attack threat'

Unfortunately, the whole world is at risk of increasingly wacked-out ideological brainwashing. That isn't limited to Islamic extremism either. There are a growing number of western xenophiles joining the ranks of the wacked-out too.

So, my New Years wish to all is perhaps more appropriately phrased as "May you avoid becoming a wacko in 2016".

Round here they're rarely fireworks. There are a number of people within a mile or two who seem to have home ranges, plus one guy just up the road who has a machine gun. The sound of shooting throughout the day on weekends is usual, and often through the evening and late into the night. It is now 9:30am on New Year's day, and I can hear shooting as I type.

Just one of the joys of the good ole US of A I guess.

Never mind, they could come in useful if ISIS heads down your way.

Town in Italy use Silent Fireworks as a way of Respecting animals

Not sure how well this would go down in Valencia or anywhere else in Spain
