Bloody fireworks
Since when did it become compulsory to let off loud fireworks on Noche buena?
We've had them going off non- stop from around 5pm and they're still at it at 1am.
Our dog is a quivering wreck and the evening has been totally spoilt for us.
Merry ******' xmas. Roll on summer.

It is the Spanish tradition to let off fireworks to show everyone that they are alive and happy with their lives. After such a long time in crisis it shows that things might be improving if they feel able to spend their money in this manner so that is excellent as far as I am concerned.

Also remember that their Christmas celebrations start with their family meal at about 10 pm after which they party together so hardly surprising that the fireworks go on all night.

Our neighbours have done this every year that we've been here. Last night they started at 12:38 - as a true Brit, I was tucked up in bed fast asleep 'till then.

Yes our neighbours still going strong at 4.00 am. We do live in the second noisiest country in the world, so what do you expect?

It is part and parcel of the experience of living in their country, love it or leave it.

Re: Bloody fireworks
Sorry about your dog but if he's going to live in Spain he'll get used to fireworks. Spanish dogs take no notice of them at all.

They are not so much fireworks, ie. pretty bursts of light but more like artillery shells on sticks. It's the Spaniards way and you have to encompass their way of celebrating.

Re: Bloody fireworks
After living here for 11 years we are quite aware of the Spanish peoples love of
Fiestas with all the noisy fireworks etc. But usually we are prepared for them. Last night was the first time we have ever experienced such a barrage on xmas eve.
The dog will probably never get used to fireworks, he is an ex Spanish hunting dog that we rescued 6 years ago, & who knows what trauma he went through in his early life?
Needless to say he has always been terrified of any loud unexpected noise.

Re: Bloody fireworks
I hate those New Years Eve artillery shell fireworks Italians seem to like and so does our dog.
He was abandoned on the road by some hunter. At least they didn't shoot the poor hound.
A couple of years ago our neighbour bought about 50 fireworks (all explosive bangers) and let them off at 5 minute intervals in the front garden.
