Which of the two has the sunniest and the driest winter weather, the Malaga or Alicante area (coastal only...)???
Thanks!
Thanks!

Malaga, I would think. AFAIK that area is unaffected by the autumn gota frias ... extreme rainfall, often resulting in damage to property and sometimes loss of life.

Oh yes we have!
(but not that much....)
Just wonder why the OP wants to know? Are there other factors? Airports/flight times? Terrain? Businesses?
Lynn's just reminded me our somewhat small normal dirt track is currently having some Junta money spent on it for 'prevention of catastrophes' which makes me smile because (a) the brilliant concrete gulleys they're laying at the side of the track is making it narrower thus making catastrophic meetings-of-vehicles more likely and (b) it won't prevent the rainfall, which is what causes the mud which is what causes the slippyslidey moments those without 4x4s experience (sometimes) during the winter months.
Not complaining, mind you.... however few, a few metres of concrete to ease our journey is fine by me!

There's not a lot in it if you check the available data. The south is a degree or so warmer and slightly drier.

Thank you all.
The reason I'm asking is that we will be coming down in our motorhome (from the Gib direction) and plan to meander along the coast in an Easterly direction, but with no real time constraints. I'd read that Malaga and the surounding area tended to be nicer in Nov-Dec, but wetter by Jan-Feb, so we are trying to decide just how quickly we should move through there!
Apart from the odd weekend in Barcelona, I've really only seen Spain in the spring and summer, so I'm open to all advice!!

not entirely unaffected dahn sarf - I know some posters from that area would say it has been very wet the past few winters - & the Gotas Frías seem to be coming earlier each year - for instance - it looked like we might be in for it this weekend - on Friday we had a massive storm & really heavy rainfall - & the local council has been on a major storm drain cleaning exercise the past few weeks

I would expect the gota fria about now as we are into October. Hopefully it will be dry and sunny for my December visit.

I think the gota fria has been cancelled for this year.

Me, I'm just hoping the weather gods postpone any wet weather until the Junta's money is fully spent up putting in the concrete gulleys and (whisper it) maybe even concrete surface to our track................

We still have main roads here where they haven't repaired the damage from the very wet winter of two years ago.

Re: best winter weather - Malaga or Alicante??
well we don't get one every year, do we?
the first winter we were here, 2003, we had one in November, and were told that was roughly when it usually happened
the following few winters we had storms - some quite big, but not an actual Gota Fría, which as I'm sure you know needs specific conditions to happen, and doesn't always mean rain
then of course came 2007 - the 12/13 October & we & everyone we knew in Jávea was affected in some way by the floods
we have had some pretty big storms since then, for instance there was a lot of wind damage in a 2008 storm -wind is typical of a Gota Fría . but without checking data I don't know for sure if they were actual Gotas Frías
one thing is for sure - local papers, weather forecasters & the Ayuntamiento are expecting a 'big one' this year

We experienced the gota fria storms 2 years ago when we lived briefly in Aspe.
It went on for weeks.I have never in my life seen storms like it.It wrecked our car in the end.
They seemed to start every day at about 4.30.
