Everyone raves about this one
http://www.peggottysonthecosta.com/findus.html Keep saying we will try it but haven't yet. Never heard a bad word about them. They were once featured on a Living in the Sun programme. Up until about 10 years ago Big Al's in La Cala was the best, better than than most in the UK. He was a legend on the coast (did a great Elvis routine too). Place was a dump though. He sold and opened nearby, we went once and they wern't great, soggy chips. He said he was having trouble with the friers. |

Re: Best Fish n Chips in Spain?
I guess if I were to emigrate I might fancy fish and chips, but I cannot ever remember when I last eat them in UK, must be many years ago. Not something that was ever at the top of my culinary list!

Before moving to Spain I never ate meat pies, sausage, rarely cod in batter but after a few years of spanish food I enjoy all of them:rofl:

As a youngster in the Forces I spent 2 years in the Middle east, and we would often talk about getting home and having out first pint of English beer! When it finally happened after 2 years of drinking cold Tiger lager, it tasted warm and not very nice! Great disappointment, took me a few more pints to get the taste back again! |

It´s always the way, when it´s not available, you want it, and vice versa!:) Mind you, I do like sausages and the occasional meat pie, and batter if it´s properly done, nice and crunchy beer batter!

Can't say I ever missed meat pies when I lived in Madrid, although I forgot about chicken and mushroom pie, which I do like. I was shocked one day when my flat-mate managed to get hold of a pork pie - don't you get enough pork products there anyway? I also found sausages generally to be far better quality than the standard (walls) rubbish in the UK, but obviously you can get better sausages if you have a local butcher. Having said all that, the one food I missed was sausage rolls, and that's one food you can't claim has a high quality in ingredients. Also, I never missed fish and chips, as you'd often get a fish option for the main course on a Menu del dia. The chips were fantastic, and probably healthier as they were cooked in olive oil. Drawback was the size (miniscule) of the portions, but I find the portions are too big at British chippies. There was a place that opened up in Madrid specially selling fish n chips to the tourists, but it had a bad rep so I never ate in there (something like "Fat Eddies") Also, I don't know the name of the tapa, but there are places that fry up small chucks of fish in batter and serve as a free tapa with your drink. Those were fantastic. |

Re: Best Fish n Chips in Spain?
Peggotty's is great - and they don't just do excellent fish and chips - the ribs are to die for - the only problem is the portion sizes - they are huge
we quite often share a meal between us - there is enough to feed two and that way we can have some sides and starter |
