Best Electricity company for living a few months a year

I have a villa in the Alicante region and come and go a few times a year spending about 2 or 3 weeks each time and totalling about about 3/4 months a year in Spain.

Im currently on a 8 hour special tariff with Iberdrola however pay about €55 a month as I pay meter hire and standard day tariff when not there. My electric usage on the monthly bill when am there is about €15 and the other fees are all charges.

is there a better company that you don’t pay daily fixed fees and meter rental?

I'm afraid as far as I know that's just the way of it in Spain. Mind I'm sure it would be the same in the UK there has to be some standing charge and meter etc. I am with Endesa and bills are mainly standing charge with small amount of electricity supplied when there. However never had any problems with Endesa so I leave it as is.

There are electricity companies in the UK that don't have a standing charge for meter (Ebico). However, the price per KWh is slightly higher.

I don't know of any Spanish companies offering the same. We pay €0.02663 per day for our meter rental, which is under €10 per year. The big costs are the taxes (21%) and Potentia (€24 per month).... I can't see the Spanish government reducing the taxes.

If you're in Spain for 4 months it may be worthwhile changing your UK supplier for a fee free one.

You can see all the offers available for all the power companies in Spain on this site.

I'm pretty sure that they all charge a "potencia" charge.
