Default The best car insurance companies in costa del sol? What do you pay?

We are moving to Spain next month, for now we are taking our car, we may bring it back before 6 months and sell it in the UK and buy a Spanish car, or we may decide to switch it to Spanish plates, pay the 500 or so euro etc but as it is a fiat panda and does 70 miles to the gallon and is very economically friendly etc my husband really wants to keep it!
Anyway, my question is that in the meantime, we need a name of a good Spanish insurance company - one that includes breakdown cover which i think they all do anyway. We will be in Nerja and so I don't know if you have a to be with someone near to you or not?
We have currently been quoted 516 euro fully comp by Ibex but that seems quite alot to me? what do other people pay?
We figured we would get it asap as even though our UK insurance covers 2 months in europe we would have to pay alot for european breakdown cover and so we may as well switch to spanish insurance with breakdown cover asap to save money. Advice and suggestions?

Try Linea Directa www.lineadirecta.com/LDAWeb/home/Home.faces

If you are in Nerja try Knights down by the Parador or Spanish Solutions R. Us Avenida Pescia, 8, 29780 Nerja952 52 39 25

We find Knights cheaper than Linea Directa, may I ask how old the Panda is, as change of plates does go on age of car, not a blanket 500 euros, can be very expensive, or quite cheap. If it is quite new sell in UK. why drive RHD anyway, better to have LHD.

Hope you enjoy your new life here, but disagree totally with Rotor saying more expensive here, not for us it isnt.

Speak to knights and get a quote from Liberty Seguros who usually work out cheaper

Be aware that a Fiat Panda may find it difficult going uphill on the motorways around here. Still doesnt seem to stop other people having one, but you may have to put in 4th gear and go on inside lane

500 euros sounds about right for fully comp. Thats how much we pay for a 2011 Civic. Though our 11 year old Seat before that actually cost the same! We use Linea Directa

The price sounds about right for Ibex who I use.
I have had three claims with Ibex ( only one motor claim ) and in each case the problem was dealt with fast and efficiently.

Remember in Spain it is usually the vehicle that is insured and not the driver so your car could be driven by anyone of any age.

Then all those Panda drivers doing 60kph on the motorway on the central lane have no excuse then!

Be careful. Our Ibex policies specifically state that only the owner and their spouse can drive the car. To add additional drivers cost us more.

Having said that, it only cost us 337 euros for fully comprehensive cover on a 2litre peugeot 307 - any driver (over 21).

The any driver rule is usually age limited - typically 25.

I am with Ibex at the moment.

It seems most policies seem to be always around the 500 euro mark or not too far short whatever vehicle.

Despite having had a run in with Linear Directa, (and I have learnt how to deal with them from this), I have also had a claim from them after being hit by a bus in Torremolinos that took my front end clean off.

I have to say that I couldn't fault Linear Directa, all I did was pick up the phone, before I put it down the breakdown truck was there and a taxi to take me to the airport for my waiting hire car. No forms to fill in ever, so easy.

Price doesn't make the company good it's their actions when you need them that is important, you will appreciate it when something happens.

I had a breakdown when with Ibex, only weeks ago, and was kept waiting on my mobile for quite some time and I was starting to panic, the English lady on the phone was not very polite to me either, quite abrupt in fact, all this when I was under stress and with police who stopped to assist me. I also ended up having to pay money to the breakdown Guy, and they tried to get out of taking me home.

Despite being a customer with these now, and also seeing and being on the receiving end of some of Linear Directa's dirty tricks at renewal time, I will be renewing with Linear Directa without a doubt. My house hold insurer also told me that Linear Directa are the best and can't be beaten in Spain.

I have had three claims with LD and they were totally brilliant handling the claims.

Yes, you have to argue with them at renewal time and they almost always agree to a better deal. I am paying the same with them now that I was 12 years ago.

So does mine, but at my request for extra discount
