Been Ripped Off-Advice please
 

Hi All
Well we finally made our move to Javea at the end of March. We used a van hire company. I will not name just yet. To start, the vehicle was illegal through numerous faults. (spanish reg) I contacted the company who stated that they were sorry ect. Since arriving in spain the company has not repaid my 250 euro deposit. I have called and emailed and been fobbed off with lame excuses ie, you broke the rear lights and the fuel cap was missing. The company owner, who collected the vehicle did not say any of this on collection. How do I go about claiming this money back? I have read about Denouncing someone but would this work? Company based in southern spain
Any info would be great thanks.

And very typical,,,guess where there are from,,,,,the UK.

Yes, denounce them. And don´t go and feel sorry for yourself that you got robbed because you´re British. Did you pay your deposit in cash ? That would be dumb.

No I did not pay the deposit in cash. I did not say I was sorry for myself ? What I was saying is it"s typical that the people who rip you off are British.

This goes wherever you want it to go, 250€ may seem like a lot, but to go thru loads of hassle and wait about three years through the Spanish legal system, may not be worth the cost in time and worry and stress etc, I am pursuing 3800€ of debt through the spanish courts, 3 years and 7 months in and still no real progress. :curse:

Very doubtful you will get your money back as you were a one off customer.

At least let other forum members know who they are so we can avoid the same,
I don't mean not deal with them but avoid the issues you had, ie pay by card,
get the vehicle signed off etc.

Maybe if you`d used a Spanish firm they most definetly would not have ripped you off.

If you read the Spanish media today, its empty, nothing happening except some jellyfish were seen off the coast of Almeria and an old man found 500 euro`s in the street and spent 4 months lookin for the person who lost it.

Plenty happening around malaga area! A foreigner was robbed of 50,000 euros yesterday, believed to be for a real estate deal (black money?) plus all the usual violence thats in the news everyday.

I was being a bit humourous.;)

Last week a 65 year old Benalmadena resident from the UK was beaten into intensive care when he returned to his apartment, they then robbed the apt and set it on fire with him inside.:(

The body of the missing Spanish 17 yr old girl Marta still hasn`t been found dispite her 20 yr old ex boyfriend admiting killing her and dumping the body.

5 Spanish police officers are given a total of 39 yrs in prison for taking bribes from brothel owners, demanding sex, fraud and not reporting illegal immigrants.

Andalucia reports more domestic murders of women by their partners this year than this time last year.

A 17yr old Spanish youth is arrested for attempting to set fire to a homeless person last thursday.

I sometimes think livit is singlehandedly responsible for talking down the spanish economy. S/he has a peculiarly bleak view of life.

The above comment was my motivation on this.

I was reacting to the fact crime isn`t soley a British trait.

There are a lot of disallusioned Expats, many end up in the Policia reporting the crime that`s been commited,most could have avoided, had they not left there brains in the UK.

Being aware of crime in any country is essential, I`m always supprised by the lack of understanding of this.

As for goin of topic, that`s a joke on this site, threads get hijacked on here just because some numpties decide there bored with the disscussion and hijack a decent disscussion.
