Bee keeping

My partner Cathy is an active bee keeper in the U.K. It looks like we might have found ‘our’ house near Albox and she is wondering if there is any sort of ex pat bee keeping community as the Spanish beeks we have seen seem to have a very different and attitude to their bees
Any information on groups, online or within 100 km of Albox much appreciated

Coincidentally, I used to keep bees in UK - I have also made enquiries here but it seems to be a very 'closed shop'.

Perhaps we need to form our own beek group and show them how it’s done. We have seen quite a few hives on this trip and back in January and there was a total lack of bees in all cases 😱

Plenty of bee keepers in our area despite the efforts of the olive farmers to eliminate each and every weed!

There is , or used to be a unit on Manzanil2 industrial estate (poligono) in Loja that specialises in things beekeeping. Just off the A92 if you were ever passing, .However I would make sure it is open as we only ever have seen it open once.

I know nothing about bees (except I like honey) but I would say there was a lot of illegal houses in the Albox area so please make sure you use the services of a professional competent independent solicitor to ensure you have a successful purchase. Good luck with everything.

There is a hotel just off the A44 at Carchel in Jaen, it's called Hotel El Oasis, and they have lots of bee keeping stuff for sale. They also sell lots of honey and honey products so I think that they would be enthusiastic bee keepers.

In Italy bee hives are supposed to be all registered through a bee keepers local cooperative that you have to pay to join. It could be the same in Spain.

Our Bee Coop sells nucleus hives at about Euro100 for 5 deep frames and about 1kg of bees. A lot cheaper than in the UK. I guessthey are using deep nest boxes in Spain too. I have 2 hives and you can hear them from quite a distance but no honey so far this year.

Well done with your honey. There are a few hectares of sun flowers in blossom nearby at the moment so hoping to still get some honey. I am in Italy but I was just curious when I saw a bee keeping post.
