Default bee eaters

i have lived here for over 5 years now and for the first time have had the pleasure of having the most beautiful birds flying over and around our house.
i looked them up on the internet and they are bee eaters! has anyones else seen them and if so which area?
we live in salinas which is 30 or so kilometres inland of alicante

If you are into wildlife, there are some very nice quite spots away from the coast. I would recommend a trip to Sierra de espuna national park>

i did read up on them and its not so much the bees that they eat.
they eat anything that flys in the insect world, especially wasps and cicaenas (bet thats spelled wrong lol)
we have had a terrible problem with wasps this summer...thousands of them...so maybe thats what the attraction has been.
they will be away soon to africa so im enjoying watching them while they are here

We have lots of them here - they have a very particular noise that they make and a very distinct way of flying.

Had lots of them up here in the mountain in Bocairent a couple of months ago... beautiful birds, just wish they had eaten more of the wasps, so I didnt get stung a few times... and had to rush to the doctors..

Sounds like it, doesn't it?!!

I've actually been in the UK since the beginning of June (returning November) so haven't seen bee-eaters this year, but there have been loads every other year. Don't suppose this year is different!
