Banning

Re: Banning
Christ Dick, it's approaching midnight. I'm sorry to say they're mostly American: Hemingway, Steinbeck, Roth, Mailer, Erskine Caldwell etc.
Brits: Dickens, Shakespeare, JK Rowling (through jealousy), Burns (don't laugh, I went to school in Scotland) and many more.
Guenter Grass, Dostoevsky, and many, many more.
The writing style I prefer? Brave writers who tell it the way they see it and don't pull punches.
I hate Jeffrey Archer.

I totally agree with you about Archer.
He was absolute rubbish.
I never considered myself talented enough to even try, but I do write an excellent snotty letter when I'm in the mood.
I expect thats what it's all about,..being in the mood when the words just flow as easily as a stream downhill, though I've heard of cases of some decent writers coming up against a sort of mental block and being unable to put pen to paper for months on end.

Re: Banning
I feel better after having written that down. I defy anyone to read anything by Hemingway and even attempt a comparison with Archer.
And, excuse my French, he got four years for being a lying bastard.

Re: Banning
Even though he lives in a penthouse on the Thames and receives regular visitors from the Tory grandees, he's not fit to lick the boots of the other writers I've mentioned. He can't write, he employs an army of swarmies to translate his hand written nonsense into something reasonably competent to pass on to the Tory Lord publisher and the army of publicists to sell his 'books'. Lord Weidenfeld,

It isn't.....
I will miss Bil too, even though I'm in daily contact with him via email.
This forum will be a much less interesting place without him, love him or loath him the fact of the matter is he brought this forum to life, even if often in a controversial way.
So long Bil my friend, many of us will miss you here!

Re: Banning
One thing we should all remember is that what is said on many forums can be read by potentially millions of people. What we see as 'fun' or jokes can be seen in a different light by others and reflect back on the forum. I was a mod on two forums for a little over four years in total and it takes up a lot of your free time, I gave up...too much hassle.

SUE!!!!
Since we are not really allowed to be discussing the whole subject of Mods decisions I fail to see the point of the thread so who cares if its hijacked?
Thats it? That is your contribution? I have been here 5 and a half years and I can honestly say you are not just the first person to point that out but without a doubt you are one of the most cutting and insightful posters I have ever had to deal with.... your wit has cut me sir, I may never come back to the forum now....
