BA Fuel Surcharges

Is it only BA that charges fuel surcharges on their bookings. I was looking at flights from Gib to Heathrow and they looked fairly reasonable until they wanted to add another 80 GBP return for extras which included 19 GBP each way for fuel surcharges. Surely these should be on the headline price.

They have to pay for their recent losses somehow
Why do they still have a fuel surcharge?

They're taking the mickey to an extreme degree. Aviation fuel only costs about 40p (UK) per litre. For a 2hr 15min flight, you could transport a tonne of "stuff" (people, cargo etc.) for a fuel cost of £42.50.
So on a per-person basis, even a fiver p.p. would be pricey.

Pete I think the O'Dreary reference was not meant to be literal, it just means he is always thinking up ways to add charges and that this is BAs way of doing the same.

Yes, I considered that - maybe I should've put a :p on the end :p though BA are definitely worse that R-A for s crewing their customers, they just do it with more class (or people are more used to it) so they don't seem to get the flak they so much deserve.
