We are back…. Finally in August . We are wanting to hire a car while we are there. We usually just do a couple of days mid holiday but the we are getting no response from our usual people so looking for some recommendations.

Im sure there is car rental from the hotel Playacanela,I believe they re-open @ Easter
Another option is Eurocar they closed there office in the marina sometime ago but I beleve they have an office in Ayamonte

Guillecar in Ayamonte - opposite the bus station - have a web presence and facebook page. ISTR they are open all year but open a local depot in Playa Moral during the summer season. If the hotels are open from Easter then most acts as agents for car hire too - so you should have plenty of options

Here is a suggestion, Isla Canela Tours have had cars for rent or @ least they use to.
I don't have a phone number for them but they have a contact email on their website.
Could be worth a try ?

Thanks. I’ve contacted them already but they are no longer offering car hire locally (apparently there isn’t any offices in ayamonte/ Canela anymore. Looks like Faro will be out only option.

Just a thought... Why not google 'vila real de santo antonio car rental' and similarly for Monte Gordo, which should have more options, and both are easily accessible.... I just tried it and there are some options that pop up.

Another idea (perhaps, depending on your needs) perhaps rent from Faro near the end of your stay use it for your trips and return it there and take your flight directly afterwards.....

Finally as we move into high season more options may become available locally.
