Aukus
The UK has done very well to be part of this, but there may well be a downside.
For the French they did not recall the UK ambassador, as they said the UK was simply a minor partner and ridding on the coattails of the US. France's defence minister has cancelled talks with her UK counterpart and that may just be the start of the UK / French relationship spiralling downwards. Also, the EU is taking note and trade talks on a deal betwen the EU and Australia that are just about to start have now been put in jeopardy, with talk of them being suspended. Rightly or wrongly, the point is that the French have the hump and feel tricked and deceived. They will want to exact revenge... As the French are at the heart of Europe and as the EU are all ears about what has happened, furure agreements and talks between EU as an institution, individual EU countires and the UK may become more fraught. For those of us hoping that some of the problematic issues that arose out of Brexit would be resolved post-haste, this does not bode well... EU countries may well adopt the approach with regard to the UK that, if you are not with us, then you are against us. The wedge between the EU and the UK is only getting bigger... |

Re: Aukus
Not to worry the UK is clearly planning on changing its image so that it appears similar to 1950 East Berlin. Dark, blanket wearing figures queuing for basic food supplies to take home to their freezing apartments where the nightly news beams the faces of portly politicians blaming it all on their enemies and conspirators!!

Re: Aukus
The supply chain system seems to have gone belly up there.
Over 1 million unfilled vacancies, the highest since goodness knows when. |
Re: Aukus
Macaroni has been exacting his revenge for a number of years already by allowing the people traffickers to use the French coast on an industrial scale, so not a very trust worthy fellow himself IMO

I expect Macaroni will organise busses to take the migrants to the French coast and then supply them will the latest high speed dinghies, khaki camouflage clothing, night vision goggles and detailed instructions about how to claim asylum in the UK. :britflag: The migrants want a British passport. After all, these migrants just want the same as we do! To move to another country, for a better quality of life. |

Favourite catchphrase of brexiteers predicting the demise of the EU!
I would say that the breakup of the UK is actually odds on favourite... Don't forget the Euro has been about to collapse for nearly 20 years too. It's been the longest death in history. |
Re: Aukus
The map shows the extent of the markets that the UK left! Unreal.... And now the the UK is in a dogfight with the Irish about the Northern Ireland protocol, the French about Aukus and the long promised UK - US trade has as we speak been trashed by Biden. Ah but I hear you say, the UK has ´TAKEN BACK CONTROL´. What a load of poppycock! UK has become significantly less of a global player, since Brexit. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...ba7ff73d5c.jpg |
Re: Aukus
That's an impressive map!
The EU is not referred to as the largest and most successful trading bloc in the world for nothing. Don't forget Norway and Switzerland benefit from the single market. The UK is completely isolated. |

Well if Macaroni was unhelpful before, now that he had the hump over Aukus to boot, he is probably on the phone right now to Alexander Lukashenko in Belarus so he can get some tips on how to make the migrant issue ever worse for the UK!

To move to another country, for a better quality of life. old semi detached is worth 450k now.Nearly quadrupled in 15 years lol.And as for migrants coming to the UK for a better life? How do you work that out when they can’t ever be legitimate. They probably get stuck in a cannabis farm or a brothel for a pittance. And if they don’t comply they go missing and no one would ever know. |
Re: Aukus
Perhaps a discussion about EU members stepping up to the plate regarding defence might be appropriate as you arent interested in any contribution the UK may or may not make.
the EU member states are very divided over what contribution( if any) that they should make. Been a thorn in the side of NATO for years. It is funny that Asylum seekers are bypassing EU states in their haste to get to “ isolated Britain” Spain even helps with transport across Spain on their way. |

Many migrants come from war town areas like Syria and areas suffierng from famine. Anything is better for them than being blown out of their beds by warring factions. I think you´ll find that only a small proportion end up in cannabis farm or a brothels. The black economy in which these migrants work is extensive and most do safe jobs but for very low pay. --------------------------------------- olivefarmer Please fact check before you post incorrect information Countries That Accept the Most Migrants
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notwithstand, with Aukus, the French will be rolling around laughing as the migrants make their way to the UK. |
Re: Aukus
Well that was a predictable deflecting response. My comment about asylum seekers was somewhat tongue in cheek but none the less true. They dont leave their war torn country and travel direct to the UK but transit many “ less suitable countries” before trying to cross the English Channel for example. I dont recall quoting figures so didnt need a lecture or correcting.
so what about a European defence for us living in the EU? How is that going? |

Housed at a factory site on Raynesway Derby Now 45+ years later they appear to be known under a variety of names but the following links are probably the most informative to this thread https://www.rolls-royce.com/products...ubmarines.aspx https://www.rolls-royce.com/innovati...ction-training |
Re: Aukus
I tried to avoid this thread as it's got nothing to do with British expats in Spain but you guys need to understand the difference between a migrant, an illegal immigrant, a refugee and an asylum seeker before you become honorary members of the EDL or BNP. Most of us on the expat forum are migrants, the trolls are just pretending to be migrants and the over stayers are illegal immigrants An asylum seeker is someone who fled their country, seeking asylum to become a refugee for 5 years before gaining their ILR. The stats above refer to migrants (that's us, on the whole), not refugees or asylum seekers. The biggest hosts of refugees are the countries surrounding the refugees countries of origin (Turkey, Pakistan etc.) but Brexiteers and nationalists don't like to hear that.
You'll see more illegal immigrants being caught and pushed through the system now because the UK needs to process them as refugees to get them working in tax paying jobs since they shot themselves in the foot with Brexit. This cut off seasonal workers, essential to the agriculture sector. Before Brexit they just turned a blind eye and let them enter the black market as illegals or left them as asylum seekers also working the black market. The knock on effects of this will be higher tax receipts and higher prices at the supermarket. And yes, you'll still get your turkey this Christmas. It will be raised in the EU and processed by the same people that used to do the same work in the UK. The difference is all of this economic activity will happen in Europe. They may even have Bernardo Matthieu branding just to rub some Euro salt in to the wounds. |
Re: Aukus
I'm at a loss as to what "Aukus" actually refers to or means. Please enlighten.

However, with the backdrop of Brexit and now this Aukus business, this unfortunately represents a further deterioration of relations between the UK and EU countries. This further souring of relations will not improve the chances of resolving the many issues for expats that arose out of Brexit, be they in Spain or elsewhere in he EU. |

Even if we were still in the EU. It’s mad how they are still salty over wars that happened nearly a 1000 years ago.

Yikes, I didn’t realise we were living in Stalin’s Russia or China where censorship was in full swing…
‘Brexiteers’ have morphed into ‘Brexit Deniers’. Brexiters promised ...
When did it become a ´social crime´ to discuss the history of our nation? :focus: |
Re: Aukus
This thread has run its course and developed into a Brexit thread. It is not about Spain so I am closing it.
