Hi Gill,
Just had a look at the link not sure which article you were referring to but I was amazed at the storey about "GUNNING FOR POWER" - Expat party targets local election victory. I remembered my post of 28th Oct (page 12 post 171 CE) reproduced below. Looks as though the revolution is beginning not sure a bid for "power" is a good thing though.
Regards,
John.
Re: Ayamonte - Costa Esuri - Part III
Hi Tricia & Andy,
Just a thought, if all the Brit owners register for their Padron under EU law we are all entitled to vote in local elections and since the regular Spanish population of Ayamonte is estimated at 18,000 and the future population of CE alone is estimated at 18,000 then if you take in all of Canela and the other new developments in Ayamonte itself, we will outnumber the resident local population.
This could have serious implications for democracy in this small corner of our favourite adopted country.
Regards,
John.

This article in the link should scare quite a few.
The draft copy of the future Ley del Suelo, which housing minister Mar*a Antonia Trujillo intends to use to fight speculation in the property sector, includes a section that obliges owners of empty properties to occupy or rent them or face having them expropriated and sold.
regards
BW.

We are going to live in ours on early retirement in about 2 - 5 years but do not wish to rent it out because it will subsequently be our home. We are not intending to put much furniture in other than some expensive beds for us and a couple of chairs until we live there so would be forced to fully furnish it with cheap stuff that we would have to throw out once we go over there.

Another thought I had about this article is what about all the spanish people who have second homes which are not rented out or who have bought properties for investment? They will be none too pleased about their homes being "expropriated". Maybe the new law if it goes through will only apply to foreigners??

Spanish people who live near us have put their holiday home up for rent, although its never been let since last year, maybe a ploy to get round it ?
