Default Applying for residencia, how much money in the bank?

Last time I read a few years ago, if you're not employed and therefore can't show a job contract you have to show income or savings in the bank.

Is this still correct? If so, how much is needed for residencia? Do we just show our current UK bank records?

Some offices require funds to be in a Spanish bank, some require UK bank statements to be translated and some will simply accept a UK bank statement.

All offices seem to be different in their interpretation of the rules.

The best thing to do is to choose an area and then to ask your local extranjeria.

Be aware many areas have long queues at the moment as many who have 'been living under the radar' are now rushing to formalise their situation pre Brexit.

Worth a look here

Included in the Residence paperwork is the phrase " Have enough funds not to be a burden on the State". This is open to any number of interpretations but generally it seems to be the case that demonstrating a positive balance in Spanish bank account of a few thousand and a source of income , not necessarily in Spain,is sufficient. Also helpful is having a credit card with a reasonable limit. The problem is mainly that each area seems to work to its own definition.
Of equal importance, for the same reason is the need to have private healthcare in place at least for the first year.

Some areas if you own a property outright there is no requirement to show any funds. It really depends upon the area you are applying for residency to.

Unfortunately the law specifically states that you cannot lay down exact requirements as it will depend on the personal circumstances of the applicant(s). Sadly, this gives the disfunctionarios the right to make up the rules as they think fit.
