This is real scaremongering as the article clearly states that this is for NON-EUROPEANS (most of us on here, I suspect, are European).

It is only in the last couple of sentences that the article states how it is for Europeans - "....the queue will be shorter as it is a different police station and the civil servants who work there are actually quite civil."

There is nothing on the official government website to confirm this.

As Snikpoh says, it's scaremongering from a property sales company - we always trust them don't we.

Not surprisingly the links on the site take you to another site selling you a £20 guide to how to obtain an NIE.

Hi Everyone. I wrote this and it is not scaremongering. A lot of my clients are non European. The truth is we have "civil" civil servants in the police station for European nationals in Valencia but not for non europeans.
As for the NIE number thing I cannot get rid of the links for some reason. Everytime I write NIE in the blog it links automatically. It is a plugin I used a long time ago, taken off the site some time ago because the book is now out of date.
FredJames: As for no mention on the Spanish government website it is published in the BOE on the 3rd of January 2012. Check it out yourself if you want to search through all of the pages.
I actually take my clients to do NIE numbers for free of course. They cannot buy a house if they haven't got one :-)
Now I have a question for porcelainwhite. Why is it a stupid website? That's not what most people who read it think. They may not agree with the points of view but dismissed as stupid...

As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Rosemary

I would imagine it is being considered "stupid" as it is a badly organised mess designed either by you or on your behalf with sole intention of generating relevant keywords to increase traffic to you web site at va1encia-pr0perty dot c0m (not wanting to give you any extra reward for the mention). It is one little cog in your interlinked websites, a method which you probably picked up from the guy who's services you are trying to sell at challenge plus...or perhaps you are just trying to justify sales of your "web marketing for Estate Agents" book by demonstrating how effective it can be to fill the internet with crap ?

Now I remember why I love forums so much. Internet warriors. If you think it is a keyword play you are very mistaken. Why would I attract attention to something so negative for my business?
Chill out.
We took a uk client to do a nie this morning and no problems. His Ukranian wife will be another matter altogether.
Btw challenge plus has closed down as of this week :-)
Now if you don't mind just taking my kid into the oceanografic, or is that too provocative too?

you asked the question..I merely furnished you with a response as to why someone may view the site as stupid. Negative or positive information is hardly relevant to you as each will add to keyword density. As to being an "internet warrior", if I were surely I would have gone far deeper than covering the surface of your little network and advised that mitzyboy or one of the other moderators give serious consideration to deleting the thread which provides very little of interest to visitors to this forum and a valuable little link thru to a web site more interested in marketing than being useful to anyone....

ps you would be hard pressed to find someone more chilled out than me who still has a pulse

I don't believe I said you did, doesn't make the thread any less pointless...and I'd rather smoke this than drink that ...weren't you meant to be taking your kid out somewhere ?
